Sefaria — Ibn Ezra on Ki Sisa 33:22

Core Text — Ibn Ezra on Ki Sisa 33:22

English: AND I WILL COVER THEE. Ve-sakkoti (and I will cover thee) has the same meaning whether spelled with a sin or a samekh . 200 Ve-sakkoti is spelled with a sin in our verse. Some commentaries say that kappi (My hand) is to be interpreted My cloud, 201 In Is. 49:16. I.E. quotes this opinion in the name of Saadiah Gaon. as in al kappayim kissah or (He covereth His hands (or cloud) with the lightning) (Job. 36:32) and hen al kappayim chakkotikh (Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands) (Is. 49:16). 202 They render this verse, Behold, I have graven thee upon My clouds. However, it is to be translated literally. 203 Kappi is to be rendered My hand.
