וירא את העגל ומחלת. ה"א העגל משרת בעבור האחרת כמו וירא את העגל והמחלת סביביו , ומרוב קנאת משה שבר הלוחות שהיו בידיו כמו שטר עדות והנה קרע שטר התנאים וזה היה לעיני כל ישראל כי כן כתוב :

English: THAT HE SAW THE CALF AND THE DANCING. The heh 103 The prefix letter heh means the. prefixed to the word egel (calf) also refers to the word u-mecholot (and the dancing). The verse should be understood as follows: that he saw the calf and the dancing around it. Moshe was overcome by great jealousy. 104 For the Lord. See I Kings 19:10: I have been very jealous for the Lord . He therefore broke the tablets which were in his hands and served, as it were, as a document of witness 105 Of God’s covenant with Israel. Moshe thus 106 By breaking the tablets. tore up the contract. 107 Of God’s covenant with Israel. As Scripture states, he did this in the sight of all of Israel.
