English: Rabbi Yosei bar Ḥanina teaches that the pants are not explicitly written in the inauguration passage. The phrase “And this is the matter” adds the pants and the tenth of an ephah to the inauguration requirements. The Gemara then derives the tenth-of-an-ephah offering through a Gezeirah shavah on “zeh” (“this”) from the offering of Aaron and his sons.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse.

What Is Learned

The word וְזֶה (“and this”) expands the inauguration passage to include requirements not otherwise stated there: the priestly pants and the tenth-of-an-ephah offering.
