Derasha 598 — Mishpatim 24:5

וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח אֶֽת־נַעֲרֵי֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ עֹלֹ֑ת וַֽיִּזְבְּח֞וּ זְבָחִ֧ים שְׁלָמִ֛ים לַיהֹוָ֖ה פָּרִֽים׃

Core Text — Zevachim 115b

יְתִיב רַב הוּנָא בַּר רַב קָטִינָא קַמֵּיהּ דְּרַב חִסְדָּא וְקָא קָרֵי ״וַיִּשְׁלַח אֶת נַעֲרֵי בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל״. אֲמַר לֵיהּ הָכִי אָמַר רַב אַסִּי: קָרְבוּ וּפָסְקוּ.

English: Rav Huna bar Rav Ketina was reciting, “And he sent the youths of the children of Israel.” Rav Chisda told him that Rav Asi said: They offered sacrifices and then stopped; the sacrificial service of the firstborn ended with the establishment of the later priestly order.
