אֶת־חַ֣ג הַמַּצּוֹת֮ תִּשְׁמֹר֒ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִים֩ תֹּאכַ֨ל מַצּ֜וֹת כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֗ךָ לְמוֹעֵד֙ חֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאָבִ֔יב כִּי־ב֖וֹ יָצָ֣אתָ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם וְלֹא־יֵרָא֥וּ פָנַ֖י רֵיקָֽם׃

מִכָּאן הָיָה רַבִּי יְהוּדָה בֶּן בְּתֵירָא אוֹמֵר: מְעַבְּרִין אֶת הַשָּׁנִים כְּדֵי שֶׁלֹּא תְּהֵא חוֹגֵג אֶלָּא בְּחֹדֶשׁ הָאָבִיב.
English: Rabbi Yehudah ben Besera said: The years are intercalated so that the festival will be celebrated only in the month of spring.
