לֹֽא־תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֥֣ה לָהֶ֖ם֮ וְלֹ֣א תׇעׇבְדֵ֑ם֒ כִּ֣י אָֽנֹכִ֞י יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ אֵ֣ל קַנָּ֔א פֹּ֠קֵ֠ד עֲוֺ֨ן אָבֹ֧ת עַל־בָּנִ֛ים עַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁ֥ים וְעַל־רִבֵּעִ֖ים לְשֹׂנְאָֽ֑י׃

מַאי שְׁנָא אִיהוּ מִינַּן דִּידַן? וְ״אִין״ דְּקָאָמְרִי, אַחוֹכֵי עֲלֵיהּ. וּמַתְנְיָתִין: כָּאן בְּיָחִיד הַנִּיסָּת, כָּאן בְּרַבִּים הַנִּיסָּתִים. יָחִיד – לָא מִימְּלַךְ, וְטָעֵי בָּתְרֵיהּ; רַבִּים – מִימַּלְכִי, וְלָא טָעוּ בָּתְרֵיהּ. אָמַר רַב יוֹסֵף: מְנָא אָמֵינָא לַהּ? דִּכְתִיב ״לֹא תֹאבֶה לוֹ וְלֹא תִשְׁמַע אֵלָיו״. הָא אָבָה וְשָׁמַע – חַיָּיב.

English: “You shall not bow down to them” — to them you may not bow, but you may bow to a human being like yourself. Might this include even one who is worshipped, such as Haman? Scripture says “nor serve them.”
