וַיִּקְרְאוּ בֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת שְׁמוֹ מָן — מַהוּ מָן? רַבִּי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ אוֹמֵר: דָּבָר שֶׁהוּא מוּכָן וּמְזֻמָּן לָהֶם. רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר: שֶׁמִּמֶּנּוּ נִבְרָא הַמָּן שֶׁל מַעְלָה. וְטַעְמוֹ כְּצַפִּיחִת בִּדְבָשׁ — כְּעִסָּה הַנִּלּוֹשָׁה בִּדְבָשׁ.
English: “And the House of Yisrael called its name man” — what is “man”? Rabbi Yehoshua says: something that was prepared and ready for them. Rabbi Eliezer says: from it was created the upper manna. “And its taste was like a wafer in honey” — like dough kneaded with honey.
