Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Beitzah 7b

English: Rabbi Zeira said: Scripture opened with se’or and concluded with chametz, to tell you: this is se’or, this is chametz [they share the same measure].

Type of Learning

Equating se’or and chametz from the verse’s shift in wording.

What Is Learned

Beis Hillel take se’or and chametz as one measure (ke-zayis); the verse’s opening with se’or and ending with chametz supports treating them alike.
