Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Pesachim 75a

English: Rabbi Asi said in the name of Rabbi Yochanan: An oven that was heated and then swept, and one roasted the Pesach in it — that is not “roasted with fire,” for it is said “roasted with fire … roasted with fire” twice.

Type of Learning

Doubled wording requires ongoing fire-heat, not residual oven heat alone.

What Is Learned

Roasting in a heated, swept oven (without live fire present) does not fulfill “roasted with fire.”
