English: “I have also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan” — it was taught: Rabbi Simai says, from where is the resurrection of the dead derived from the Torah? It is from the words “to give them”; “to you” is not said, but “to them.” From here is the resurrection of the dead derived from the Torah.

Rabbi Simai reads “to them” as referring to the patriarchs themselves: the covenant includes their future possession of the land, which presupposes resurrection.
