Their father Jacob said to them, “It is always me that you bereave: Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you would take away Benjamin. These things always happen to me!”
Torah Temimah points to Chullin 95b (and parallel).
English of Core Text: “Yosef is not…” It was taught: R’ Shimon ben Elazar says, [Regarding] a house, a child, or a wife — even though one may not practice divination, there is a sign. R’ Elazar said: And this is only when it has been established three times, as it is written, “Yosef is not, and Shimon is not, and you will take Binyamin; upon me have all these things come.”
On the daf / in context: The Gemara discusses when repeated misfortune may be taken as a sign without constituting forbidden divination; Yaakov’s threefold lament is cited as the scriptural source for the number three.
Type of Learning: Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13; the sugya extracts a rule about signs from Yaakov’s words.
What Is Learned: A pattern of three successive losses may be regarded as a sign (without constituting forbidden nichush), as illustrated by Yaakov’s triple complaint.
