And he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities; the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.

Classical midrash on the method of storage.

Sefaria · Bereshit Rabbah 90

Core Text of Chazal

English of Core Text: “The food of the field which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.” Each city preserved the produce of its own surrounding fields.

On the daf / in context: The midrash notes the decentralized storage system that both prevented spoilage and made the later distribution efficient.

Type of Learning: Derash on the verse (classic midrash) — not a formal named middah of the 13.

What Is Learned: Wise administration stores each region’s produce locally; the plan Yosef implements is both practical and sustainable for the long famine ahead.
