Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
וַיָּנָס וַיֵּצֵא הַחוּצָה — נִרְאֲתָה לוֹ דְּמוּת דְּיוֹקְנוֹ שֶׁל אָבִיו.

English: “And he fled and went outside” — the image of his father’s face appeared to him.

In context: The final resistance is reinforced by the vision of Yaakov, which breaks the last pull of the moment.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Bavli) — not a formal named middah of the 13. Flight is explained by a sudden appearance of paternal image.

What Is Learned

Yosef flees when the likeness of Yaakov appears before him, restoring the shame of sin in the father’s presence.
