Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
וַתָּקָם וַתֵּלֶךְ וַתָּסַר צְעִיפָהּ — חָזְרָה לְבִגְדֵי צִדְקָתָהּ.

English: “And she arose and went, and took off her veil” — she returned to the garments of her righteousness.

In context: After the encounter, Tamar resumes modest widow’s dress; the midrash stresses her return to dignity.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Bavli/midrash style) — not a formal named middah of the 13. Removing the veil is read as restoration of status.

What Is Learned

Tamar does not remain in the guise of a zonah; she returns at once to the clothing of a widow.
