The Complete Passuk

And she put off her widow’s garments from her, and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the entrance of Einayim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given to him as a wife.

Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: But is that possible? Even the most brazen zonah does not act thus [sitting fully exposed at a public crossroads].

On the daf / in context: The Gemara challenges a purely literal reading of an open roadside seat and pushes toward the deeper place-name reading.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. A practical objection forces a non-superficial reading of the location.

What Is Learned

A flat reading of “entrance of Einayim” as a public prostitute’s post is rejected; the verse supports a more dignified geographic derash.
