Then Yehudah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law: Remain a widow in your father’s house until Shelah my son grows up — for he said: Lest he also die like his brothers. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.

What is the meaning of “almanah” (widow)? Rav Chana of Baghdad said: [It is related to maneh,] because the Sages would later enact for her a kesubah of a maneh.
Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. A word-association links the status term to a future monetary enactment.
