וַיֹּ֤אמְרוּ לוֹ֙ אֶחָ֔יו הֲמָלֹ֤ךְ תִּמְלֹךְ֙ עָלֵ֔ינוּ אִם־מָשׁ֥וֹל תִּמְשֹׁ֖ל בָּ֑נוּ וַיּוֹסִ֤פוּ עוֹד֙ שְׂנֹ֣א אֹת֔וֹ עַל־חֲלֹמֹתָ֖יו וְעַל־דְּבָרָֽיו׃

His brothers answered, “Do you mean to reign over us? Do you mean to rule over us?” And they hated him even more for his talk about his dreams.

הֲמָלֹךְ תִּמְלֹךְ עָלֵינוּ — אָמְרוּ: מַלְכוּת אַתָּה מְבַקֵּשׁ עָלֵינוּ? וַיּוֹסִפוּ עוֹד שְׂנֹא אֹתוֹ.

English: “Will you indeed reign over us?” — they said: Do you seek kingship over us? And they hated him yet more.

In context: The brothers hear the dream as a claim to royalty; hatred intensifies because of that reading.
