His brothers answered, “Do you mean to reign over us? Do you mean to rule over us?” And they hated him even more for his talk about his dreams.

English: “Will you indeed reign over us?” — Bereishis Rabbah 84:10 records two readings of the brothers’ doubled question. Rabbi Levi says their begrudging response led to wicked descendants, while Rabbi Shimon says the double expression of “reign” and “rule” led to kingship among Joseph’s descendants.
Derash on the verse (Bereshis Rabbah) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The Midrash reads the doubled language of the brothers as significant and records two distinct interpretations of its later consequence.
