And Yaakov said: No, please, if I have found favor in your eyes, then take my present from my hand, for therefore I have seen your face as one sees the face of God, and you have accepted me.
Ramban on Bereishis 33:10.
Sefaria · Ramban on Bereishis 33:10
“For therefore I have seen your face as one sees the face of God” — Yaakov asks Eisav to accept the gift because seeing Eisav’s face was like seeing the face of God, in the sense that Eisav accepted the gift as God accepts the offering of those who fear Him.
Ramban explains the comparison through the acceptance of the gift, rather than identifying it simply with the preceding angelic encounter.
Classical commentary on the verse (Ramban).
The simile is tied to the gracious acceptance of Yaakov’s offering.
