Core Text of Chazal
Core Text
English: “I will surely give a tenth” — twice, teaching that he accepted upon himself two tithes.
On the daf / in context: The doubled verb is read as an acceptance of both maaser rishon and maaser sheni (or the equivalent double obligation).
Type of Learning
Derash on the verse (midrashic) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The doubled language yields a double obligation.
What Is Learned
The doubled expression teaches that Yaakov undertook a double tithe.
