Core Text

English: For he had gone there to bring Hagar back to Avraham his father that he might take her again as his wife.

On the daf / in context: Yitzchak’s arrival from Be’er-lachai-ro’i is linked to the tradition that he went to fetch Hagar (Keturah) for Avraham after Sarah’s death.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Rashi / midrash) — not a formal named middah of the 13: the place-name is read as the location of a filial mission on Avraham’s behalf.

What Is Learned

Yitzchak came from Be’er-lachai-ro’i; according to the midrash he had gone there to bring Hagar back so that Avraham might marry her again.
