Parashas Chayei Sarah · Passuk 24:29
Now Rivkah had a brother whose name was Lavan. Lavan ran out to the man at the spring—
Rashi on Bereishis 24:29 (classical source on this passuk; not listed as a numbered Torah Temimah unit here).
Lemma / focus: וירץ לבן.
English: Why did he run and for what did he run? When he saw the nose-ring he said, “This one is rich,” and he set his eyes on the money.
Derash on the verse (Rashi) — not a formal named middah of the 13: the motive for running is supplied from the following clause about seeing the gifts.
Lavan ran out to the man at the spring because he saw the nose-ring and the bracelets and set his eyes on the wealth.
