Rashi on Bereishis 23:8 / Bereshit Rabbah (classical source on this passuk; not listed as a numbered Torah Temimah unit here).

Lemma / focus: ופגעו לי.

Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
נפשכם. רְצוֹנְכֶם: ופגעו לי. לְשוֹן בַּקָּשָׁה כְּמוֹ: אַל תִּפְגְּעִי בִּי (רות א'):

English: “Your soul” means your will. “Intercede for me” is language of entreaty, as in “Do not entreat me.”

On the daf / in context: Avraham asks the people to act as intermediaries with Ephron; the verb is fixed as a request for intercession, not a legal claim.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Rashi) — not a formal named middah of the 13: the verb is identified by parallel usage as a term of entreaty.

What Is Learned

Avraham does not demand the cave; he asks the people of Cheis to intercede with Ephron on his behalf if it is their will that he bury his dead.
