Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “Will not withhold” — will not restrain, as in “You will not withhold Your mercies.”

On the daf / in context: The people of Cheis address Avraham as a prince of God and guarantee that no burial place will be withheld; the verb is clarified as “will not restrain/withhold.”

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Rashi / plain sense with midrashic support) — not a formal named middah of the 13: the language of non-withholding is fixed by parallel usage.

What Is Learned

The children of Cheis recognize Avraham as a prince of God and assure him that no one will withhold a burial place from him for Sarah.
