Parashas Vayeira · Passuk 22:21
Uz his first-born, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram.
Torah Temimah points to Yerushalmi Sotah 5:6.
TT lemma: עוץ בכורו.
English: “Uz his first-born.” It was taught: Bar Kappara says, Iyov lived in the days of Avraham. This is what is written, “There was a man in the land of Uz, Iyov was his name,” and it is written, “Uz his first-born.”
Derash on the verse (Yerushalmi) — not a formal named middah of the 13. A genealogical name is linked to the setting of the book of Iyov.
Iyov lived in the days of Avraham; the land of Uz is identified with the first-born son of Nahor listed in this verse.
