“To the land of Moriah.” What is Mount Moriah? Rabbi Levi bar Chama and Rabbi Chanina differ. One said: the mountain from which instruction (hora’ah) went forth to Israel. The other said: the mountain from which fear (mora) went forth to the nations of the world.
Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. A place-name is given two midrashic etymologies.
Mount Moriah is so called either because instruction went forth from it to Israel or because fear went forth from it to the nations.
