English: “And Avraham reproved…” And immediately afterward it is written, “And the two of them made a covenant.” This teaches that reproof brings about peace.
Derash on the verse (Sifrei) — not a formal named middah of the 13. Narrative order yields a principle of interpersonal conduct.
Reproof, when properly given, leads to peace; Avraham’s confrontation with Avimelech was followed by a covenant between them.
