Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “And they made him drink…” From where did they have wine in the cave? Rather, it was provided for them for that hour.

On the daf / in context: The presence of wine in an isolated cave is explained as a special provision that made the events possible.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Sifrei) — not a formal named middah of the 13. A practical difficulty is resolved by positing divine or timely supply.

What Is Learned

Wine was miraculously (or providentially) available in the cave so that the daughters could carry out their plan.
