Core Text

English: “Where he had stood.” It was taught: “Standing” means only prayer, as it is said, “And Pinchos stood up and prayed.” This teaches that Avraham our father fixed a place for his prayer.

On the daf / in context: Returning to the same place demonstrates the value of a fixed location for prayer (makom kavu’a).

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The return to the identical spot yields the requirement of a fixed prayer place.

What Is Learned

Avraham fixed a permanent place for his prayer; one should likewise designate a fixed location for tefillah.
