Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
הִנֵּה בָאֹהֶל. מִכָּאן דִּכְבוּדָּהּ שֶׁל אִשָּׁה לֵישֵׁב בַּבַּיִת.

English: “Behold, in the tent.” From here we learn that the honor of a woman is to dwell within the house.

On the daf / in context: Sarah’s presence inside the tent is cited as the paradigm for the modest and honorable place of a woman in the home.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The factual answer “in the tent” is read as a normative statement about a woman’s proper domain.

What Is Learned

A woman’s honor is to remain within the house; Sarah’s presence in the tent is the classic illustration.
